Windrose

A wind rose is a graphical tool utilized by meteorologists to depict how wind speed and direction are distributed at a specific location. It will show the frequency of winds blowing from certain directions. The windrose above is of an area around the Savannah River. The wind seemed to come fro mthe northeast and the Southwest. The wind rarley ever came from the Northwest.

Climograph

A climograph is a graphical representation of the monthly precipitation and temperature conditions for a specific region. Precipitation is shown by the bar graph and a line graph depicts temperature. This is a climograph for Memphis Tenniseee comparing precipitaion and temperature throughout the year.

Population Profile

Population profile maps present a graphic overview of several demographic statistics collected certain data. They can depict a wide range of variables through different methods. This population profile shows the population that is White vs. the population that is Black in Brookly, NY.

Scatterplot

A scatterplot uses Cartesian coordinates to display values for two variables from a given set of data. The data is then displayed as a collection of points which each having the value of a variable determining the position on the horizontal axis and the other variable determining the position on the vertical axis. The scatterplot above is showing the relationship between a wife's age and her husband's age.

Index Value Plot

The index value plot to the left is showing the stream flow in North Carolina. It shows whether the stream flow was above average (wet), average, or dry from 1999-2008.

Accumulative Line Graph or Lorenz Curve

The lorenz curve graphically represents the cumulative distribution function of a probability distribution. It is frequently used to display income distribution. It was developed by Max Lorenze in 1905.

Bilateral Graph

A bi-lateral graph is a visualization map. Two related variables are identified as well as their overlaps. This map represents bilateral humanitarian assistance from various countries.

Nominal Area Choropleth Map

Nominal area choropleth map is a choropleth map that is used to display nominal data. This is a my nominal area choropleth map of the Election process outcome for this year. The data represented can not be ordered in any way, but the country is clearly divided.

Unstandardized Choropleth Map

Unstandardized choropleth maps are unordered maps; there is no specific ranking assigned to the class - one category is not higher or lower than the other.

Standardized Choropleth Map

Standardized choropleth maps have data, which are standardized, to better allow comparison of distribution among different areas. The map above is standardized (according to area and population of the state) choropleth map of the population density of the United States.

Bivariate Choropleth Map

Bivariate choropleth maps display two different variables displayed on one map by including two different sets of graphic symbols or colors. The map to the right is a bivariate choropleth map comparing population density and population change in Russia.

Unclassed Choropleth Map

The technique of unclassed assigns shadings proportional to the data values so that these choropleth maps do not have to classify the data. This is a Flash Density map of the United States. It shows the amount of lightning flashes per square km per year.

Classed Choropleth Map

A classed choropleth map the main objective is to determine height and shading or color intensity of the bar for each map classed. This would involve creating a classed frequency legend including a frequency histogram, a frequency curve, and shading. The map above is a normal classed choropleth map. It shows the amount of males per 100 females in the United States.
